Traditional Republicans for Common Sense endorse Senator Kelly for governor
Joining the strong bipartisan movement putting the people of Kansas before political party, the group Traditional Republicans for Common Sense today endorsed Senator Laura Kelly for governor. Citing her commitment to fiscally responsible policy, strong public schools, good roads, and a thriving economy in all communities, they announced their support and their plan to campaign on Kelly’s behalf.
“This is a pivotal election for Kansas, the stakes couldn’t be higher,” said former Senate Majority Leader Lana Oleen (R-Manhattan). “We’ve all seen the devastating impact the Brownback experiment has had on our state in recent years and we have to make a change this November. We must stop Kris Kobach from taking our state backwards and destroying our future.”
The Traditional Republicans for Common Sense (TRCS) was created in 2010 to fight Brownback’s irresponsible policies and to advocate for common sense policy positions, which include job creation, funding Kansas schools, providing for common sense tax policy and responsible governing. They have continued to be active in the political discussion since then.
“I remember being truly inspired by the leaders who created the Traditional Republicans for Common Sense in 2010,” said Kelly. “They were standing up for the people of Kansas – even when it was difficult. I’m honored to have their support this year in my campaign for governor. I know we will work together to solve the problems facing our state and our families.”
The 70+ members of TRCS reside throughout the state and have more than 700 collective years of service to Kansans. They are former Republican officials who understand the importance of an effective, efficient state government and continue to be very active in policy discussions for the betterment of Kansas.
“I worked with Laura in the Senate and I know her to be a strong, steady, experienced leader who always puts the best interests of our families and children first,” said Oleen. “We must come together to elect Laura Kelly as our next governor. The alternative – Kris Kobach – promises to repeat the Brownback experiment that resulted in cuts to our schools and a failing economy. We can do so much better.”
The Traditional Republicans for Common Sense join a growing movement of traditional Republicans supporting Laura Kelly for governor. There are already over 50 former Republican leaders who endorsed Kelly, including former governors Mike Hayden and Bill Graves and former US Senator Nancy Kassebaum. The group is working together to engage Republicans, Democrats, and unaffiliated voters in their communities across the state.
