27 prominent Republicans join the Republicans for Laura Kelly movement
A group of 27 prominent Republican leaders today announced their support of Senator Laura Kelly for governor. The group cited her commitment to bipartisan solutions, as well as her focus on priorities like schools, healthcare, jobs and the economy, as the reason for their support.
“Laura Kelly is a strong, experienced, moderate leader who has a record of bringing people together to solve problems with bipartisan solutions,” said former Senate President Dick Bond. “Kris Kobach wants to repeat the Brownback experiment we fought so hard to end. He will take those dangerous policies even further and devastate Kansas.”
The new group of Republicans for Laura Kelly includes: former US Senator and Lt. Gov. Sheila Frahm, Lt. Gov. Gary Sherrer, Ins. Com. Sandy Praeger, Senate President Dick Bond, Senate President Dave Kerr, Senate Majority Leader Lana Oleen, Senate Majority Leader Tim Emert, Senate Vice President John Vratil, Sen. Barbara Allen, Sen. David Wysong, Sen. Wint Winter Jr., Sen. Pete Brungardt, Sen. Ruth Teichman, Sen. Barbara Bollier, Sen. Audrey Langworthy, Sen. Terrie Huntington, Sen. Bob VanCrum, Sen. Alicia Salisbury, Rep. JoAnn Pottorff, Rep. Ginger Barr, Rep. Jim Yonally, Rep. Jim Lowther, Rep. Fred Lorentz, Rep. Joy Koesten, Rep. and GOP Chairperson Rochelle Chronister, Rep. Charlie Roth, and GOP National Delegate Don Johnston.
“After years of crisis, Kansas needs a leader who will put the best interests of our families first,” said former US Senator and Lt. Governor Sheila Frahm. “I’ve known Laura for a long time – I worked with her to end the Brownback experiment. She will bring Kansans together to rebuild our state. Not only that, she will slam the door on the failed policies of Sam Brownback and stop Kris Kobach.”
The Republicans for Laura Kelly will work together to engage Republicans, Democrats, and unaffiliated voters in their communities across the state.
“Laura Kelly has demonstrated a commonsense Kansas approach to dealing with critical issues during her service in the Kansas Senate,” said former Lt. Governor Gary Sherrer. “She is a level-headed problem solver, capable of bringing people to the table to get things done. Laura will be a fiscally responsible governor who focuses on the needs of our communities – schools, roads, healthcare, and jobs. I encourage all Kansans – regardless of party – to support Laura Kelly for governor.”
The Republicans for Kelly understand the serious threat Kris Kobach poses to Kansas and know Laura Kelly to be the best candidate for governor.
“I was an enthusiastic supporter of Greg Orman’s 2014 Senate run, but Laura is the best candidate to beat Kris Kobach this November,” said former Senator Wint Winter Jr. “It is very clear that Greg’s candidacy is now helping Kris Kobach. I have a message for Greg, Kansans know Kris Kobach is a terrifying prospect for our state – worse than Sam Brownback in so many ways. Greg should not risk the future of our state to advance his political goals.”
There is a growing movement of moderate Republicans publicly endorsing Laura Kelly. Last week, Republican Governor Bill Graves announced his support for Kelly. There will be more endorsements in the coming weeks.
