Janis Lee, a longtime senator from western Kansas, today endorsed Senator Laura Kelly for governor.
“I’m honored to have the support of Janis Lee – a strong Democratic woman who spent years representing the interests of Western Kansas in the legislature,” said Kelly. “Janis understands how important it is to put Kansas families and communities first.”
The endorsement continues the campaign’s recognition of Women’s History Month. Throughout March, the campaign will recognize Kansas woman who have left their mark on our state and made life better for Kansans.
Lee was a member of the Kansas Senate representing the 36th District from 1989 until 2011. She was Assistant Minority Leader from 1997 until her appointment as chief hearing officer for the Kansas Board of Tax Appeal.

I am proud to announce my support for Laura Kelly for governor. I was lucky to spend many years working side-by-side with Laura in the state senate fighting for our schools. No one knows the issues better or understands how to solve the challenges we face better than Laura Kelly.
After having Sam Brownback as governor for seven years – Kansans have had enough of politicians putting their personal political agenda before the best interests of our kids and families. Laura’s life mission has been to do right by our kids. She is exactly the leader we need to get Kansas back on track.
Laura is the candidate with the right combination of experience, knowledge and skill to reverse the damage done by the Brownback/Colyer administration. And she knows that getting things done means listening more and shouting less. She will unite our state, even as powerful forces work to divide us.
